LONG TERM FOSTER CARE  - enquiries to aprillodgeguinea@aol.com

We sometimes have guinea pigs here that are not suitable for adoption.  These often go on long-term foster-care.  They are quite well but would benefit from more one-to-one care.  They are often part of a bonded pair.  We would in this event allow them both to go on long term foster-care.

Any guinea pigs that are on complicated medication or treatment stay with us.

Because we have an ever-growing list of guinea pigs waiting to come here, we are hoping we can free up some spaces by offering  these guinea pigs long-term foster care.  Anyone willing to participate in this scheme would receive full back-up from us and can return the guinea pigs at any time, if the need arises.

The guinea pigs available for long-term foster care are the following:

KOALA AND BOB ARE AVAILABLE FOR LONG TERM FOSTERCARE.  KOALA IS A BROWN AND WHITE REX BOAR BORN IN FEBRUARY 2007.  HE ARRIVED HERE UNWANTED ON 3RD AUGUST 2009 WITH ANOTHER MALE.  HE HAD FIGHTING INJURIES, WAS UNDERWEIGHT AND HAD MANGE.  FOLLOWING TREATMENT IN ISOLATION, HIS WEIGHT HAS GONE UP TO 1400 AND HE IS WELL. HE HAS SINCE BEEN TEAMED UP WITH BOB WHO IS A BROWN BOAR, BORN IN MAY 2006.  BOB ARRIVED HERE AFTER LOSING HIS COMPANION.  HE HAS MAINTAINED HIS WEIGHT AT AROUND 1375G AND IS WELL

CYRIL & CHARLIE
Cyril is a ginger and white boar.  He was born in 2007.  He arrived at April Lodge in September 2009 fitting and squealing with a fungal skin infection and underweight at 1050g.  The previous owners had already spent £144 on vet consultations and shampoo, but to no avail.  It took us about 8 weeks to get him back on track.  In May 2010 he had successful surgery on a fibrous lump on his back.  He is ok now, his weight is up to 1440g  and he has recently been teamed up with Charlie.
Charlie is also a ginger and white boar.  He was born in 2005.  He lost his companion in May of this year.  He became very depressed and had not been eating very well. He came to us in June 2010. His weight is 1096g so there is plenty of scope there as he is actually a big guinea pig.  Since being with Cyril he has been eating well.  It is early days yet and we would hope to see a big improvement in Charlie's weight in the coming months.
Again, a big indoor enclosure would be ideal for these boys with plenty of interaction, food, exercise and tlc.

APRIL LODGE GUINEA PIG RESCUE LONG-TERM FOSTERING INFO/ AGREEMENT/DECLARATION

Foster-carers must live within a 20mile radius of the rescue centre.

Our guinea pigs who go to live in long-term foster-care are not suitable for normal re-homing/adoption because they are either aged, have an

ongoing medical condition, have been known to bite or they have a combination of problems.

Most of our foster-carers are able to provide accommodation, equipment, dry feed, bedding, hay and fresh veg and fruit.  However, we can provide these items if necessary apart from the veg/fruit.

With regard to healthcare, you are still invited back here as normal for regular health-checking.

If appropriate, we can at any time take back the guinea pig.

The foster-carer can contact us at any time with regard to health care by phoning 01304 619152, mobs 07790 684888 or 07764 757 530 or 07712 627 017. or by email www.aprillodge.co.uk

If the foster-carer feels that the guinea pig needs veterinary care within normal working hours, you need to return the guinea pig to us or we can collect.  If you take the guinea pig to a vet of your choice, you will be expected to pay the bill.  The guinea pig must not be euthenased without our consent.

If the foster-carer feels that the guinea pig needs veterinary care outside normal working hours, you need to return him to us.  If you take the guinea pig to a vet you will be liable for the vet bill. Under no circumstances is the guinea pig to be euthenased without our consent.

This is to confirm I agree with the above conditions.
