LONG TERM FOSTERCARE

April Lodge Guinea Pig Rescue operates a long-term fostering scheme.

Many of our rescues are here a long time before we can find them the right home. So long, in fact, that they often then become "too old" to adopt. Most people want younger pets. Some guinea pigs arrive already aged (4years +). Some are on long term medication, often due to poor care and others have varying medical issues which means they are not suitable for adoption.

The second problem is that all our long-term residents are then hutch-blocking which in turn prevents us from taking in any more unwanted guinea pigs.

The only way round this problem is to place our “unadoptable” residents into long-term fostercare.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

We would like our fostercarers to live within a 25 mile radius of April Lodge in Sandwich and ideally be reasonably knowledgeable with guinea pigs.  We would expect the guinea pigs to live indoors, in the warm, where there is lots of interaction and they can be given medication/treatment. We hope our Fostercarers would be able to provide accommodation, a suitable exercise area, bedding, veg, fruit, dry feed and equipment.

In return, we provide full back up which includes free healthcare and veterinary care for the rest of their lives, an email helpline and an "after hours" emergency phone number.

Our Guinea Pigs which go to live in long term fostercare need to be comfortable, with lots of TLC....after all, this is the last stop.

Please contact us if you think you can help.
