Care & Diet

Non Surgical Sick Bay & Clinic

Comments & Thank You

I call my carers, my unsung heroes.  When I am here on my own, running the "sick bay", feeding, watering, moving grass runs, putting out nest boxes, putting out guinea pigs and cleaning hutches, racking up, bathing, health checking, chopping veg, getting supplies and medication, answering the phone and emails and dreaming up our next fund-raising activity,  it is then that I realise how important they are and without whom I could not carry on.  At present its about a 12 hour day, 7 days a week for me....don't get me wrong, I feel privileged to be able to run our rescue centre but you can see how important it is that we have a constant army of carers.  Most of my carers have been here a long time, so it can't be all that bad.

The morning shift is 10 am -12.30 pm

The duties would include handling the guinea pigs, preparing grass runs with nest boxes and fresh water.  Putting the guinea pigs in to the runs, mucking out, racking up, preparing the readigrass.  We usually put out about 24 - 30 guinea pigs each day.

The afternoon shift is for about 1 hour between 4pm & 7pm depending on the time of year & weather.

This includes bringing the guinea pigs in and settling everyone down for the night.
